The Licensing Executives Society (LES) is updating its surveys for royalty rates and deal terms in the high technology sector and the life sciences sector. LES USA-Canada, LESI and other societies have collaborated to seek broader participation in the surveys -- to ensure that it has a global reach, accurately reflects licensing trends and is even more valuable to our community.
THE SURVEY IS NOW OPEN. And, LES needs your help and participation. These reports are one of the most publicly visible and cited LES work products. And, more input provides better results and better benchmarks for the licensing community to model against; but we must get the word out. The survey results will be available in September. Every survey response remains confidential.
An FAQ sheet is available here with more detailed info, but here is what you need to know:
1. The survey deadline is October 31.
Please complete the survey by October 31. Use this link: survey opt-in form. Those interested can select the survey they want to complete – High Tech, Life Sciences, or both -- and they will receive a unique link to the survey form. We also urge you to share this link with those outside of LES. Again, a wide response makes the survey results most useful to you and others in the industry.
2. The results will allow you to better benchmark existing and proposed royalties.
The results are unique and can be extremely useful in license negotiations and other IP transactions because they provide data for the industry that is otherwise unavailable. The data from this survey will be analyzed along with the data from the last several surveys conducted by LES – so the resulting reports will offer a unique view of the licensing landscape during the past ten years.
3. Survey results available Sept. 2021.
A preliminary analysis and report will be made at the LES USA-Canada 2021 Annual Meeting – which will take place the week of Sept. 27, 2021. The final analysis and report will be available to LES members at no cost and to others for a fee. LES membership dues and sponsorship contributions are supporting 100% of the costs of this project.
4. Every response is confidential.
LES has again commissioned Vault Consulting, a leading association research organization, and experts in confidential surveys, to administer this survey and maintain the confidentiality of the information submitted. As in the past, Vault will not provide LES or anyone else with any individual survey data or other information that can identify individuals, individual answers, or company names.
