April 2010

April 22-24, 2010 • InterContinental Adelaide, Australia

On behalf of the Licensing Executives Society of Australia and New Zealand (LESANZ), it is my pleasure to invite you to attend the 2010 LESANZ Annual Conference to be held at the InterContinental in Adelaide from 22-24 April 2010.

LESANZ is a non-profit professional body whose members are actively involved in professional and business activities concerned mainly with intellectual asset management and technology transfer/commercialisation. Two of the organisation’s objectives are to provide a forum in which members can be educated in relevant professional and business
issues and to enable them to meet and share experiences and learnings. The 2010 Annual Conference, which will be held over 3 days (two day conference plus one day of preconference professional development workshops), provides an excellent environment to exchange ideas, meet new people and form new business relationships.

The theme of the Conference is “Public Good and Intellectual Property Rights—Grant Me a Monopoly for the Benefit of All,” and the programme that we have planned is dynamic and different, bringing together local, national and international speakers on a range of topics.

Proposed conference sessions include Contemporary Issues in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR); Open Access vs. IPR; Co-operative Research Centres—Public Good vs. IPR; Geographical Indications and Defence Industry Update; Public Health and IPR; IPR’s Role in Fundraising for New Ventures; Licensing and an Informative Debate on the Question “Do IPR’s Matter for Commercialisation?”

Highlights of the Conference will also undoubtedly include the opening Cocktail Reception and the Conference Dinner.

Look for details at https://lesanz..org.au/realmevents/conference.html

We hope that you will be able to accept our invitation to attend the 2010 LESANZ Annual Conference as it promises to be an interesting, rewarding and enjoyable conference, and also to take the opportunity to experience some of the unique attractions that Adelaide has to offer.

Chicago – America’s “Hub”

Chicago is a global city, a thriving center of international trade and commerce, and a place where people of every nationality come to pursue the American dream.

Chicago is home to eleven Fortune 500 companies, while the rest of the metropolitan area hosts an additional 21 Fortune 500 companies.

Today, 50 percent of U.S. rail freight continues to pass through Chicago, even as the city has become the nation’s busiest aviation center, thanks to O’Hare and Midway International airports. Chicago’s downtown area is known as “The Loop.” The nickname refers to the area encircled by the elevated (‘L’) train tracks. In 1900, the city successfully completed a massive and highly innovative engineering project—reversing the flow of the Chicago River so it emptied into the Mississippi River
instead of Lake Michigan. Each year, the Chicago River is dyed green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Chicago was one of the first and largest municipalities to require public art as part of the renovation or construction of municipal buildings, with the passage of the Percentagefor-Arts Ordinance in 1978.
