Mission

The IUGT Committee provides a forum for networking, education and professional development for LES members working in public sector research organisations (PRO’s) including universities and government research laboratories, industry and law firms and other professional service providers interested in technology transfer and commercialisation.

Chairs

John Walker (LES Australia and New Zealand)

John is Managing Director of Licensing & Technology Management Pty Ltd, a specialised technology & IP management practice. Previously, he was Managing Director of Intellectual Property Management Pty Ltd (IPM) being responsible for the management of CSIRO’s intellectual property portfolio. John has Masters degrees in Civil Engineering and Intellectual Property Law and a degree in Economics. A registered Australian Patent and Trade Mark Attorney, John is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Past President of the LES Australia/NZ.

Sun Kim (LES Korea)

Sun Kim is a partner at Kims and Lees, Seoul, Korea. Formerly as Director IP Strategy and Licensing for Korean government’s Institute for Information Technology Advancement and having served on Advisory Board at Korean Fair Trade Commission on Innovation and IP Policy, Sun specializes in all aspects of IP law, including licensing and advising on contentious matters.

Alan Pau (LES USA/Canada)

Dr. Alan Paau is Vice Provost for Technology Transfer & Economic Development at Cornell University, Executive Director of the Cornell Center for Technology Enterprise & Commercialization and President of the Cornell Research Foundation. He is responsible for the strategic management of all technologies and intellectual property that arise from the research activities at Cornell University, including the Weill Cornell Medical College and the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station. A Certified Licensing Professional™ who holds a doctoral degree in Biological Sciences, a Master of Business Administration degree, and attended the Drake University School of Law.

Louis Berneman (LES USA/Canada)

Louis P. Berneman heads Texelerate, LLC, a technology transfer consultancy. His current engagements include: Partner, Osage University Partners; Member, Strategic Advisory Board, Cowen Healthcare Royalty Partners; and Founder, President and Director of TMune Therapeutics. Previously, Mr. Berneman was managing director of the Center for Technology Transfer at the University of Pennsylvania (1995-2005) and director of licensing at Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology (1989-2005). Mr. Berneman is a Past President of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).
